I have a day to experiment in the kitchen, how about you? On this day, I prepare food by combining different and unusual ingredients for our daily meals. There is usually an ingredient that I want to combine with something else and make some dish – I weigh everything and carefully record it, cook and have fun photographing it, then serve and wait for some reactions. And the funniest part of the day begins – “Hmm, that looks good” or “It’s delicious”, “That’s weird!” or “What’s in there that tastes so weird?” Although my husband Danail is more adventurous with experiments than I am, he still does not like vegetable smoothies and seaweed. But I keep experimenting!

I prepared the recipe for Hemp Drink “Spring Garden” on one of my days of experimenting in the kitchen. As usual, I overdid the amount of mung bean sprouts – they are easy and quick to grow, which is why I often grow them and they are present in our daily menu in the form of some combination. This time I decided to include them in a drink as I wanted them to remain hidden. So I needed ingredients to mask the taste and aroma of the mung bean sprouts. Peeled hemp seed has a specific aroma and taste that approaches the taste of nuts – it is rich in useful fats and proteins. Because the hemp flavor is strong enough, it completely dominates the light bean flavor from the mung bean sprouts. I added red beetroot powder – a light sweet taste and barely perceptible caramel aroma, an amazing and rich pink color without the specific aroma and taste of fresh beetroot. A little light agave syrup for extra sweetness and a few ice cubes for a slight cooling effect. My experiment was a success, and my taster’s reaction was, “Except for the overly pink color, the drink is delicious! It doesn’t taste like mung bean sprouts at all!”

The hemp drink “Spring Garden” has a deep pink color and a light nutty taste, with a light caramel aroma and a slight cooling effect. For a stronger cooling effect, make the drink with ice water.
