Red bananas – exotic from the market or new fashion in the kitchen? I personally like them more than yellow bananas because they are sweeter and have a richer banana flavor. They contain more beta carotene and vitamin C than yellow bananas, as well as potassium. Despite the sweeter taste of red bananas compared to yellow bananas, the difference in the amount of calories per 100 g of product is minimal.

Whether red or yellow bananas are constantly present in our kitchen. I usually buy yellow ones, but lately I’ve been buying red bananas more and more. It is always better to eat a banana instead of a chocolate – a banana is a natural fruit with more valuable ingredients and much fewer calories than chocolate! Red bananas have a richer yellow color than yellow bananas, and when mashed, the yellow ones turn brown and the red ones change from yellow to orange-red.
I make fruit smoothies for me and my husband Danail almost every day, and because I don’t like monotony, I usually experiment with the ingredients. I like colors so my food is not only delicious but also colorful. And the “Red Velvet” fruit smoothie has a deep red color from the combination of the deep pink color of the red beet and the purple color of the chokeberry. The sweetness of red bananas is complemented by the sweetness of red beets, but the banana aroma dominates over the aroma of beets. Chokeberry gives a subtle sour taste, which together with the sweet taste of bananas hides the slight bitterness of sesame tahini. I added allspice powder for an exotic warm aroma and a slight spiciness.
